Pool Filling & Seasonal Setup – FAQs from Mountain Services

Mountain services truck in the wash bay

Looking for bulk water delivery can be confusing – especially when you’re not sure where to start.

At Mountain Services, we get it. Whether you’re filling a pool or topping up a cistern, you’ve probably got a few questions. That’s why we’ve pulled together answers to some of the most common things our customers ask – so you can book with confidence and know exactly what to expect.

How much water do I need to fill my pool?

We’ve made it easy. Use our pool volume calculator to figure out exactly how much water you’ll need based on your pool’s shape and dimensions. Whether it’s in-ground or above-ground, we’ve got you covered.

Not sure of the exact amount? No problem. We’re happy to help you estimate based on what you know, or we can simply fill until your pool is good to go.

Worried about ordering too much? We do our best to only bring what you need, but in the rare case there’s a bit left over, we dispose of the water responsibly, always following local regulations.

This applies to cisterns and hot tubs as well.

Filling a brand new pool

How long does it take to fill a pool with delivered water?

Most pools can be filled in just a few hours with our bulk water trucks. That’s a lot faster than waiting 24–48 hours with a hose. Our blog on above-ground pools breaks it down with examples.

What does it cost and how do I pay?

Depending on location and the quantity of water required will dictate our fee. We’re pleased to give you a firm quote to provide you with your requested delivery date and time.

We accept e-transfer, cash, and cheque. Payment is due at time of delivery unless otherwise arranged.

When should I schedule my pool water delivery in spring?

As soon as your pool is uncovered and cleaned, you’re ready. Spring fills book up fast, so we recommend scheduling early. Our spring prep blog outlines what to do before we arrive.

Can I use my hose instead of getting water delivered?

You could, but it’s not ideal. Filling a pool by hose is slow and can strain your water source (especially a well). We fill your pool quickly, safely, and without stressing your plumbing. Check out our post on why delivery makes sense.

Will the water be clean and safe for swimming right away?

Yes – we only deliver potable, municipally treated water. It’s safe for swimming, but you’ll still want to balance the chemicals in your pool (chlorine, pH, etc.) before diving in. That’s standard pool care.

What if I’m not sure where my cistern or tank is located?

No problem, let us know when booking and we’ll help locate it when we arrive.

What is your delivery area?

We deliver across The Blue Mountains, Thornbury, Meaford, Owen Sound, Collingwood, and surrounding areas. If you aren’t sure, just give us a call and we’ll let you know if we can deliver to your area.

Can you deliver during winter or in tough weather?

Yes, we operate year-round, including in winter and rough weather. We offer same-day, evening, and weekend delivery to help out when you need it most. Just give us a call to confirm availability.

How far can your truck hose reach from the road or driveway?

Our trucks are equipped with 200 feet of hose. Let us know if you will require a longer run. We can usually reach your pool as long as there’s clear, safe access. Our trucks are big, but we’re used to tricky properties.  If your setup is more complex or hard to reach, let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly. Our 10 prep tips blog includes advice on access and setup.

Can you deliver water same-day or after hours in an emergency?

We sure can. Same-day and after-hours deliveries are available.  If you’re out of water, give us a call, and we’ll do our best to get to you fast.

Do you deliver water to construction sites or road crews?

Yes, we regularly work with builders, contractors, and municipal crews. Whether you need water for home construction, road compaction, or industrial use, we can supply it reliably.

Can you supply water for compaction or dust control?

Absolutely. Our trucks are equipped to deliver water for soil compaction, dust suppression, and other site prep tasks. We’re already supporting projects like this across the region.

Do I need to be home for delivery? Do you work with landlords or rental properties?

You don’t need to be home when we deliver. As long as we have clear instructions and access, we can deliver while you’re out. Just make sure gates are unlocked and pets are secured. We’ve worked with property managers, landlords, and vacation rentals to keep things running smoothly.

Will you notify me when I need to order again?

We offer scheduled top-up services for regular customers. If you’re using a cistern, we recommend setting up a smart monitoring system like PT Level. They track water levels and alert you when it’s time for a refill. We’re happy to help you get started with that.

What else is water delivery for?

It’s not just for pools and cisterns. We deliver water for all kinds of uses you might not expect including:

  • Irrigation systems
  • Freshly laid sod or landscaping projects
  • Large gardens or small farms
  • Filling backyard or community ice rinks
  • Washing down equipment or dusty driveways
  • Event setups (like water for dunk tanks or slip ‘n slides)
  • Livestock tanks or troughs
  • Emergency top-ups when wells run dry

If you’ve got a unique need, just ask – we’ve seen it all and we’re happy to help.
